Fish management in Tinnelva
10-YEAR – AGREEMENT SIGNED WITH NJFF ON FISH MANAGEMENT IN TINFO’S PART OF TINNELVA
Tinfos has now entered into an agreement with Notodden Hunt and Fish Union (NJFF) and Notodden municipality where NJFF will be responsible for fish management in Tinnelva – from outlet Tinfos 1 power plant and down to Heddalsvannet. Tinfos owns most of the river on this stretch.
NJFF has for many years been responsible for fish counting in Tinnelva on behalf of Øst-Telemarkens Brukseierforening. The figures are discouraging – there are fewer, and fewer fish and the development is negative with regard to salmon and trout.
– Now we will create an action plan to look at what we can do to improve conditions in the river. We want to facilitate so that everyone who wants to fish close to the city will have the opportunity – and of course with universal design. We want everyone to be able to make use of the local nature, says leader of NJFF, Ole Henning Skogen to the newspaper Telen.
Tinfos wants to take social and environmental responsibility seriously. In the long term, this work NJFF may now have the opportunity to carry out result in better conditions for these current red-listed fishingspecies, and at the same time result in value creation for the city and the municipality. Good fish rivers lead to increased activity and visitors. This will also have ripple effects for trade and accommodation businesses.
– For Tinfos, it is important to enter into an agreement with an association that is genuinely interested in this work, says Øyvind Odden, head of administration at Tinfos. NJFF is a serious association both locally and nationally – and the fact that they have also started clearing the river is awesome. We greatly appreciate and thank Notodden Diving Club and Notodden Hunters and Fishermen’s Association for working together to clean up the Tinnelva river last week. It was a good piece of work that was carried out partly in collaboration with Tinfos. Incredible amounts of rubbish were taken up in a relatively small area.
